Israel's military massed troops on the border with Gaza as airstrikes pummeled the Palestinian enclave in the wake of Saturday's attack by Hamas.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken said he discussed with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the importance of avoiding civilian deaths in its fight with Hamas, the militant group that both officials urged other countries to reject.
“The prime minister and I discussed how Israel does this matters,” Blinken said, referring to the fight with Hamas and the rules that civilized nations use to wage war. “That’s why it’s so important to take every possible precaution to avoid harming civilians,” Blinken said before embracing Netanyahu.
