Lawyer and author Professor David Crane says the conflict between Israel and Hamas is going to “end badly for both sides”. “It’s a lose-lose for all parties,” he told Sky News Australia.

Lawyer and author Professor David Crane says the conflict between Israel and Hamas is going to “end badly for both sides”.“There is a rule of law in the battlefield called the laws of armed conflict where we try to minimise the terrible aspects of conflict and to protect those found on the battlefield.

“One of the cornerstones of this is that civilians could never be intentionally targeted or civilian objects can’t protect – places like hospitals cannot be targeted. "Israel normally follows the laws of armed conflict but it has been drawn into a situation where we have a terrorist group hiding behind Palestine civilians as human shields.

“So anything that Israel does good or bad will reflect negatively on them because we have massive civilian casualties.”
