Biden also announced $100 million in new U.S. funding for humanitarian assistance for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank in a speech Wednesday.
RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany — President Biden during a refueling stop here on his flight back from Israel said Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi had agreed to open the Rafah crossing to allow 20 trucks carrying humanitarian aid into Gaza.
“If Hamas confiscates them or doesn’t let it get through … then it’s going to end,” Biden told reporters during an unexpected visit to the press cabin of Air Force One. It had been a week since the most viable land path for relief convoys between Gaza and Egypt had been effectively shut down by Israeli airstrikes on the passage. On Monday, trucks filled with aid lined the road in Arish — the closest city in Egypt — as people crowded the gates on the Palestinian side.
