The Gaza militant group launched its biggest sustained assault in years, prompting Israel's military to call up reservists and order retaliatory strikes.
Morocco, the current chair of the Arab League, has called for an emergency session for the group’s foreign ministers to discuss the security situation in the Gaza Strip after Palestinian militants launched Saturday's surprise attack on Israel.
Over 20 nations are in the group, which was formed in Cairo in 1945 to coordinate the policy responses of Arab nations, often serving as a forum to limit regional conflicts. Historically, it has had relatively little impact. Morocco’s Foreign Ministry said discussions are under way for the meeting to be held in the coming days at its Cairo headquarters.
