The Gaza militant group launched its biggest sustained assault in years, prompting Israel's military to call up reservists and order retaliatory strikes.
The Israeli army regained control Sunday of 29 different areas that Hamas had penetrated into Israel from the Gaza Strip, Israeli army spokesman Richard Hecht told reporters.
He said soldiers continue to scan areas to ensure no Hamas militants remain inside Israeli territory and the army has launched airstrikes against hundreds of targets in response. The military is figuring out its broader response with the Israeli government, he added. “We are going to respond severely against Hamas for this inhumane activity, but it’s going to take some time,” he said. 'This is going to be a long long haul.
