About 500,000 Palestinians are on the brink of starvation, according to a report by United Nations agencies and aid groups.
A U.S soldier inspects Gaza aid on a truck before entering a U.S ship at the port of Larnaca, Cyprus, Wednesday, June 26, 2024. An official with the U.S. humanitarian assistance agency USAID says thousands of tons of food, medicines and other aid piled up on a Gaza beach isn't reaching those in need because of a dire security situation on the ground where truck drivers are either getting caught in the crossfire or have their cargo seized by"gang-like" groups.
“It is unfortunately UNRWA and others, and the World Food Program is another one, who simply spend their time perpetuating this conflict rather than pulling their finger out and actually doing the job which they were designed to do. Stop blaming Israel,” he said. The World Food Program on Tuesday backed the findings of the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification analysis, which said a “high risk” of famine “persists as long as conflict continues, and humanitarian access is restricted.”
In his briefing Wednesday, Mencer implied — without providing evidence — that “many” of the aid workers who have been killed were working with militant groups in Gaza. He singled out Fadi Jihad Muhammad al-Wadiya, an employee of Médecins Sans Frontières, or Doctors Without Borders, as an example of a terrorist disguised as an aid worker.
“Fadi is the sixth MSF staff member who has been killed in Gaza since 7 October and one of 500 health workers killed by the Israeli forces during the same time according to the United Nations,” MSF wrote in a statement to The Washington Post. “There is no justification for this, it is unacceptable. Healthcare workers must be protected and should not be targeted.”
