The Islanders named Tommy Albelin an assistant coach on Monday, bringing him back behind an NHL bench for the first time in a decade.It’s not clear whether Albelin or Benoit Desrosiers will run the penalty kill, which was also one of Houda’s responsibilities. Albelin, who played for the Devils under Lamoriello in the ’90s and 2000s, winning two Stanley Cups, worked for the team from 2007-15 as well, with stints as an assistant for both the NHL club and the AHL Albany Devils.
He followed Lamoriello to Toronto as well, working for the Leafs as a pro scout for two seasons from 2016-18.Islanders could go bargain hunting as Identity Line decision looms in NHL free agencySince then, the Swede has worked in the Swiss national program, coaching Switzerland as an assistant in the Olympics, World Championships and World Juniors, among other tournaments.
