Since the start of March, Oettinger has played in 15 games and won 12. What do you notice has changed with the team’s defensive structure?Even I’ve been surprised by how immediate his impact has been, but Dallas went from allowing 3.02 goals per game before Tanev to 2.18. That’s pretty drastic in the span of six weeks.
“Even Oettinger has said that he feels his presence in front of the net. Now, you’ve got a solid top four with a two-way pairing of Miro Heiskanen and Thomas Harley and a solid defensive pairing of Esa Lindell and Tanev. I think the overall defense is certainly helping him.“But Oettinger’s own game has taken a step. He’s recovered from his injury and built some confidence against some weaker opponents that he’s carried into big games.
“Based on how he’s used Lundkvist lately, it’s hard to imagine him not returning Hakanpää to the lineup once he’s healthy. Since Hakanpaa isn’t ready to play in a regular season game, it could take some time before he’s back, but I think he and Suter will be paired together again. I know a lot of Stars fans won’t be happy with that, but it appears DeBoer has more confidence in Hakanpaa than Lundkvist in critical situations.”, Staff Reporter.
