Pokémon has kept the number of Legendaries of any one species vague, but could this Latias be the same as the one from the movie Pokémon Heroes?
The final episodes of Ash's Pokémon journey have aired, and it presented him with a Legendary encounter. As Ash tended to the wounded Latias, fans have been clamoring on whether this particular Pokémon is a familiar friend, as Latias, and its partner Pokémon, Latios, starred in the fifth Pokémon movie, Pokémon Heroes: Latios and Latias.

The girl turns out to be an illusion created by Latias – what the criminals are really after. Ash and this Latias grow close over the course of the movie, to the point where it seems to have developed a crush on Ash.
The New Latias Is Related to Pokémon Heroes In the first episode of To Be a Pokémon Master, Ash comes across an injured Latias that crashed into a pond in the forest. Ash pulls it out of the water and attempts to treat its wounds. While Latias attempts to remove its bandages and flee when it awakens, the Pokémon is soon under attack by Team Rocket, hoping to steal it.
The Latias follows Ash for most of the miniseries, and eventually requests his help in rescuing its partner Latios. Ash would go on to save Latias and Latios from a Pokémon Hunter, allowing them to return to their home. The series finally confirms that this Latias and Latios are related to the Pokémon Heroes movie in the episode "Ash and Latios," showing them returning home to Alto Mare, the city seen in the film.
The Pokémon Heroes movie is a favorite of fans, and marked the end of an era itself, as it was the last movie to feature Ash, Misty and Brock. It makes a lot of sense to bring elements of the movie back for Ash's final storyline, tying it to the last time the three characters were together. The storyline also helped to showcase Ash's growth since that film, as he was able to win the trust of Latias and Latios more easily than before.
