exposing Helena Eagan's deception and bringing back Helly R., it feels like all this has done is reset the board for the innies, raising the stakes as Mark gets closer to completing Cold Harbor with 85% progress at the end of Episode 5,"Trojan's Horse." One of these questions could provide us with one of the most complicated love stories on television: Will Helena Eagan and Mark Scout meet on the outside? The show has teased this numerous times, even going back to the first episode,"Good News About Hell," where Mark almost ran Helena over while leaving work. With Helena watching Mark leave in the show's most recent episode, a meeting feels almost inevitable, and it may not be an accident, either. Helena may pursue Mark in order to gain back some agency she feels she has lost, and this would create a fascinating dynamic with Mark also beginning the reintegration process, so it'll be interesting to see what he will or won't remember about Helly and Helena. In the end, this could create a complex love square that puts multiple characters' goals in conflict with one another. Helena May Attempt to Meet Mark as a Source of Agency and Love in 'Severance' She may be the future CEO of the company as Jame Eagan's daughter, but the latest episode of Severance showed us that Helena does not have the power we thought she did. When Drummond informs her that she has to go back down to the severed floor, she initially refuses for fear of her life. Instead of listening to her, Drummond and Natalie merely tell Natalie that this is what the Board wants. We can also couple this with the fact Helena has lost favor with her father, who not only called her a"fetid moppet" in the first episode of this season,"Hello, Ms. Cobel," but has also been shown to be kept at arm's length from his daughter, with Helena having to ask Drummond if"Father" knows about what happened at the ORTBO. With Severance making it clear that Helena is a far more isolated and controlled figure than we previously thought, it stands to reason that Mark is arguably one of the only sincere forms of love and respect she has ever felt, leading to the possibility that she might actively push to meet him on the outside. Whether she does this at first to find comfort in Mark or it turns into an opportunity for her to win back respect from Lumon is yet to be seen.Posts 5 Helena and Mark's Conflicting Viewpoints Could Create a Fascinatingly Complex Relationship in 'Severance' Close It's safe to say that we would be surprised if everything worked out well for these two if and when they do meet, but just how complicated their interactions may be, and what it could do for Mark's overall goal of finding his wife, Gemma , could be even messier than we think. With Mark reintegrating, he may have to wrestle with the fact that Helena manipulated his real feelings for her innie, especially when we consider that it was most likely the first time Mark's innie had sex. On the other hand, Mark has already acknowledged that Helly and Helena aren't that different, so there may still be pieces of Helly in Helena that make it impossible for Mark to completely ignore her. In Helena's case, her feelings are arguably even more opposed. She's already voiced a strong hatred of the innies, viewing them as “f***ing animals” after trying to kill her twice — once via suicide from Helly R. as well as Irving B.'s drowning attempt in the previous episode,"Woe's Hollow" — while also privately expressing shame about who she really is on the outside to Mark during the ORTBO. Meanwhile, Mark S. already has a conflicting interest in Helly R. while helping his outie search for his wife, Gemma, who he has no feelings towards, creating a sort of love square instead of the archetypal love triangle. With Helena becoming involved, we now have a potential love pentagon between Mark S., Mark Scout, Gemma, Helly R., and Helena Eagan. This creates the possibility of tension within Helly R. and Mark S.'s relationship, and if Mark fully reintegrates, who will he choose, and how will a meeting with Helena complicate his feelings further? Overall, this meeting not only feels inevitable, but it could be the tipping point that forces Mark to have to choose between Gemma, Helly R., and Helena. While Helena was pretending to be Helly, even Mark S. admits he struggles to tell the difference between the two and with his reintegration on the way, how this would impact a meeting with Helena Eagan, depending on what he remembers from Season 1 and the ORTBO, could create a myriad of reactions within Mark. Despite the reaction Mark may end up having, it is Helena's current interest in Mark that poses more questions about what she wants from him or what she hopes to gain by meeting him.
