Exclusive: Temuera Morrison weighs in on whether that clone veteran in ObiWanKenobi was actually Captain Rex: 'There's a broken-down kind of Rex guy; that's me. But he got a little bit of a reaction. Yes, I love that.'
Temuera Morrison responds to speculation that Obi-Wan Kenobi's clone veteran is Captain Rex. The third live-action Star Wars TV show is giving several actors and characters a chance to return to the galaxy far, far away. Ewan McGregor headlines the series as Obi-Wan Kenobi once more, a role he hasn't played since Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith more than a decade ago.
The first two Obi-Wan Kenobi episodes debuted on Disney+ recently and included a few surprise cast members. Audiences were delighted to see Jimmy Smitts return as Bail Organa, which also brought the appearance of a young Leia Organa . Obi-Wan Kenobi also included cameos from C-3PO and R2-D2 in the background, but viewers were also treated to an appearance from Temuera Morrison. The actor most recently starred as Boba Fett in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.
And even the reaction I got on Obi-Wan? There's a broken-down kind of Rex guy; that's me. But he got a little bit of a reaction. Yes, I love that. I really enjoyed Obi-Wan, too. I love what they've done. Just epic. Temuera Morrison has previously expressed an interest in playing Captain Rex in live-action. Just earlier this year, the Boba Fett star said he would love to play him or Commander Cody in live-action and learn what happened to them after the prequels. While Morrison seems to leave the door open that Obi-Wan Kenobi's clone veteran is Captain Rex, the Star Wars canon indicates otherwise.
Even if Obi-Wan Kenobi's clone veteran isn't Captain Rex, Morrison could still have the opportunity to play him in the future. With the Ahsoka series appearing to be a live-action continuation of Star Wars Rebels' story, there's a chance for Rex to appear due to his close connection to Ahsoka Tano. In any case, the ambiguity of Temuera Morrison's Obi-Wan Kenobi cameo is part of the reason why it works so well.
