Are you ready to switch your favourite bottle for a bar of shampoo?
By now, most of us are well aware that our beauty routines aren’t necessarily as eco-friendly as we’d like. There’s a lot of plastic packaging, some questionable chemicals, and a fair amount of waste in the shape of products that go unused. But how far would you go to clean up your regime? A handful of brands are championing solid shampoos as good for both the environment and your hair.
While there are plenty of well-formulated shampoo bars on the market, Maleedy does warn that there are bad ones, too. “Some soaps are too alkaline, with a pH of between eight and nine due to the sodium hydroxide mixed with animal fats, vegetable fats or oils, and as a result can leave your hair dry, brittle and fragile,” he says. “The pH of a shampoo is usually between five and six, giving it the same acidity as the skin, which helps to cleanse your hair and scalp.
