Though he’s made no indication he’s open to another Senate run, observers have suggested he could be in a better position to oust vulnerable Republican Sen.
O’Rourke entered the 2020 race with some leftover momentum from his 2018 challenge against Cruz, but hasn’t been able to break from the pack since, polling in the low single digits in’s racist rhetoric on Hispanic immigrants opened fire on an El Paso Walmart, leaving nearly two dozen dead and many others wounded, O’Rourke reminded Americans why he’s such a crucial Democratic voice.
Such remarks earned O’Rourke deserved praise from his fellow 2020 Democrats. “Congressman O’Rourke, I think, has done a wonderful job of expressing all of the emotion that all of us have about what happened in El Paso,” fellow Texan and 2020 contenderover the weekend in Iowa, where the other Democratic hopefuls gathered to make their pitch to voters at the State Fair.
O’Rourke’s campaign and supporters have bristled at the suggestion that he abandon ship. “I think in this age of Trump, when we’re all looking for moral leadership and presidential values and, really, American values, Beto O’Rourke has been a light in the woods here for us in the past couple weeks,”a former Democratic National Committee member who has helped O’Rourke in South Carolina, told.
