The lawsuit says the man died from injuries sustained in an altercation with intoxicated patrons at an East Texas restaurant location.The family of a man who died after being knocked to the ground outside On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina in Longview earlier this year is suing the Irving-based restaurant group.

The wrongful death lawsuit, which was filed in Dallas County, says 54-year-old Hector Vancini died after being assaulted by intoxicated patrons of the restaurant on Jan. 17, 2024.The East Texas man and his friend Edgar Hernandez were having drinks at On the Border when another group of patrons began acting belligerently and threatened Vancini and Hernandez, according to the lawsuit.

Vancini punched Wallace and Wallace struck Vancini in the head, causing him to hit the ground and lose consciousness, according to the suit. The man who was with Wallace recorded the altercation and later posted the video on social media.Employees at the restaurant did not intervene at any point during the altercation or the escalating behavior that led to it, and they did not call first responders for Vancini, the lawsuit said.
