Tax season may be a long way off, the Internal Revenue Service says that tax scammers never rest.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Identity theft and scams can take many forms, including when a scam artist uses your stolen personal information to file false tax returns. Their goal is to claim fraudulent refunds.
Look for any indication that another person has filed taxes under the name of the legitimate taxpayer. This could be an online IRS account created or accessed or deleted without the taxpayer’s knowledge.
