Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei delivered remarks at a Tehran mosque just days before the anniversary of the Oct. 7 invasion of Israel by Hamas terrorists.

The remarks took place at a Tehran mosque days before the one-year anniversary of Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack on Israel. Khamenei claimed Israel is mainly focused on protecting itself after nearly a year of fighting with Hamas and Hezbollah, according to the translation. “Al-Aqsa Flood and the year-long Resistance of Gaza and Lebanon have brought the usurping regime to a point where its main concern is to protect its existence, which is the same concern that the Zionist regime had in the early years of its cursed creation,” Khamenei said, according to the translation.
Some supporters of Hamas have argued that the Oct. 7 attack was necessary by pointing to Israeli hostility in the region. Israel formed in 1948 on land inhabited by Jewish and Arabic people.“The primary cause of war, insecurity, and backwardness in this region is the existence of the Zionist regime and the presence of governments that claim to seek peace and calm in the region,” Khamenei said, according to the translation.
