U.S.-Israeli attacks have killed 20 people in the southern Iranian city of Shiraz, according to local officials, marking one of the deadliest single strikes since the latest round of fighting began. Iranian authorities say the casualties include civilians caught in overnight bombardments.
Strikes also continued across Tehran and parts of northwest Iran, where officials fear that Kurdish armed groups based in Iraqi Kurdistan could exploit the chaos to launch cross‑border operations. The sustained pressure on multiple fronts has heightened concerns inside Iran about a widening security vacuum. Israel expanded its campaign in Lebanon, launching additional waves of attacks on Beirut’s Dahiyeh suburb and several towns in the south. In Sidon, local authorities reported five deaths after a series of strikes hit residential areas. Iran, meanwhile, has kept up its own barrage. Drones and missiles have targeted countries across the Gulf, prompting Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and the UAE to announce fresh interceptions since Thursday night. The cross‑Gulf exchanges have raised fears of a broader regional conflict drawing in multiple states. Energy markets are facing mounting strain. Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad al‑Kaabi warned that the war could “bring down the economies of the world,” saying Gulf producers may be forced to halt output within weeks if attacks continue to threaten critical infrastructure. Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said any diplomatic effort must confront those “who underestimated the Iranian people and ignited this conflict,” signaling that Tehran expects accountability before considering de‑escalation.
