Iran’s president has ordered an investigation into the death of a man in custody after activists alleged he was tortured to death by police in the north of the country.

Police and the government offered few details on why the authorities chose to investigate Mousavi's death. Mousavi “was killed under torture in the detention center of the Special Unit of the Law Enforcement Force of the Islamic Republic of Iran after being arrested,” Hengaw said. “The family of this young man has been pressured by Iranian security agencies to refrain from making this crime public.”
