said it's launching the 10th consecutive night of strikes against Iran starting at 4 p.m. ET on Monday. The strikes continued after the death of American service members in the Middle East and Iranian attacks on Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, home to the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet. The Pentagon identified those killed in the attack on the Jordanian base as 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt.
Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas. The deaths bring the number of U.S. service members killed during the nearly five-month war to 17.
"Every time Iran kills an American Soldier they will pay for that killing many times over! " President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social on Monday afternoon. "This directive has been passed on to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Daniel Caine, and every Leader in the Military.
" White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt posted on the social media platform X that Trump will attend the dignified transfer of the fallen soldiers on Tuesday evening at Dover Air Force Base. As fighting intensifies and the U.S. and Iran inch closer to an all-out war again, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Sunday that Washington remains willing to negotiate if Iran is serious about reaching an agreement.
"We're going to continue to respond. If the door opens to diplomacy — if the guys that want to do something productive for Iran win and take control of that system, or take control of the negotiations — that'll be a very positive development," Rubio told reporters.
"That's not where we are tonight, unfortunately. " Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway and focal point in the conflict, has stalled. That route is also relied on by world energy suppliers. On Monday, regular gasoline prices soared to an average of $4 per gallon, keeping pressure on negotiators.
