.IAGovernor Kim Reynolds signed a bill into law Thursday banning biological males from women's sports, following the lead of South Dakota govkristinoem.
According to the signed legislation,"Only female students, based on their sex, may participate in any team, sport, or athletic event designated as being for females, women, or girls."
“This is a victory for girls’ sports in Iowa. No amount of talent, training or effort can make up for the natural physical advantages males have over females. It’s simply a reality of human biology,” she said in a statement. “Forcing females to compete against males is the opposite of inclusivity and it’s absolutely unfair.
Reynolds delivered the GOP's State of the Union response this week, in which she slammed President Joe Biden for"the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal" and his handling of the economy, pointing to Russia's invasion of Ukraine to argue he has"emboldened our enemies." Last month, Noem signed"an act to protect fairness in women's sports," a similar piece of legislation to the one Reynolds signed."This is about fairness. Every young woman deserves an equal playing field where she can achieve success, but common sense tells us that males have an unfair physical advantage over females in athletic competition. It is for those reasons that only girls should be competing in girls' sports," she said in a statement.
