This John Doe case is much older and has its own unique challenges for detectives.
Published: Aug. 1, 2024 at 3:52 PM EDTCLEVELAND, Ohio - Can DNA and genealogy help solve another John Doe case in Stark County?
His skeletal remains were found next to an oil well road in a rural part of Canton Township just as the pandemic took hold in March 2020.“We’re looking at it as a homicide, until we find evidence that it’s not. And so that’s the way we have to approach this, that’s the way we will approach it,” Sheriff George Maier said.
From left to right: A forensic reconstruction by BCI of John Doe, digital images of what he may have looked like, and a photo of Michael Leach.Michael’s skeletal remains were found about three and a half miles away from another man’s remains.“There’s no real thought that they could be connected, but we haven’t ruled it out entirely, but based on the information we have now it gives us a better opportunity to determine whether they may have been connected,” said Sheriff George Maier.
“Well, you keep your fingers crossed. I know that the law enforcement is continuing to work on this and we’re looking for the public to call in, let us know if you know anything about either of them,” said Attorney General Dave Yost. They may not have solved Michael’s case, but they brought public awareness to his story.
