Investigators have identified the sheriff’s detective and gunman who exchanged gunfire Friday at a National City car dealership, where the suspect was killed and the deputy was injured by shattered glass.at least one shot at the undercover detective in a Dodge dealership lot, San Diego homicide Lt. Lou Maggi said in a news release Wednesday.

The shooting occurred shortly after uniformed deputies pulled over an Acura sedan on Mile of Cars Way near Hoover Avenue around 1:20 p.m., Maggi said. During the stop, a man in the front passenger seat, later identified as Stewart, exited the car and ran from deputies. A National City motorcycle officer joined Akers as the detective searched for Stewart. They eventually spotted him inside the truck and approached him.
