Authorities are investigating the shooting of a bald eagle in Cedar City, Utah, which ultimately led to the euthanization of the animal. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is seeking the public's help in locating the person responsible for the incident.
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, reported an investigation was underway into the shooting of a bald eagle in Cedar City on Feb. 29. The animal ultimately had to be euthanized, authorities stated. Authorities are looking for answers after a bald eagle was found shot through the wing in Iron County and had to be euthanized due to the severity of the injury.
According to a DWR statement, the eagle was apparently shot with a rifle and was located by conservation officers on Feb. 29 in the area of 4500 West in Cedar City. "The Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act was enacted in 1940, and prohibits anyone — without a permit issued by the Secretary of the Interior — from killing bald or golden eagles or taking their parts, including feathers, nests or eggs," according to the DWR. "The individual involved in this incident could be facing a third-degree felony charge of wanton destruction of protected wildlife.
