The new school year marks a new beginning for the Rochester City School District.

"We have five new middle schools. a new high school, a new strategic plan, a new superintendent," said Rhonda Morien, RCSD 's chief of schools. "A lot of work went into making today happen as we reconfigure as a system.""The best schools, best teachers, best programs RCSD also had to hire 350 staff members for the start of the school year.

"In addition to hiring, we had to orient and onboard, and bring people together for professional development," said Chris Miller, the district's chief of human capital. "We had to help move staff into their new schools, and we are super grateful for all of the work our staff did across this summer.""I'm feeling a little nervous, because the last school he was in, he was in since pre-K," said Trisha May, the parent of a seventh-grader.

"We have wonderful counselors and social workers and mental health clinicians who are also available for students to help them process some of their thoughts and concerns," said Ruth Turner, the district's deputy superintendent for administration and supports. "For some, it may trigger some past trauma or emotional reaction to it, or even our staff. We are prepared for that, if need be.
