Valerie Frausto is in her first week as San Antonio's new fire chief and is making history as the first female for the city. SAN ANTONIO - Valerie Frausto is in her first week as San Antonio's new fire chief and is making history as the first female for the city.
The 51-year-old San Antonio native has worked for the department in nearly every role for 24 years. The department currently has more than nineteen hundred employees. "You started in 2000... rose through the ranks as firefighter, fire engineer, lieutenant, captain, district chief, assistant chief, now fire chief. Has it sunk in yet?" asked Paredez.
