At 10:28 a.m. EDT October 7, the space station flew over Hurricane Milton and external cameras captured views of the category 5 storm, packing winds of 175 miles an hour, moving across the Gulf of Mexico toward the west coast of Florida.“External cameras on the International Space Station captured new views of category 4 Hurricane Milton … as it churned across the Gulf of Mexico, headed for an expected landfall around Tampa, Florida in the early morning hours,” according to NASA.

“To everyone in the path of #HurricaneMilton, we join with @fema to urge you to LEAVE NOW if you are in an evacuation zone; there will not be time to leave on Wednesday,” NASA wrote in a post on X sharing the footage. “Evacuation orders, open shelters, & more resources at http://FloridaDisaster.org/Updates.”
