Interior Secretary Deb Haaland has ordered a new review of previous proposals for a land exchange — authorized under the Trump administration — that would allow for a road to be constructed between King Cove and Cold Bay.

A view of the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge and the mountains beyond is visible from near the end of an existing road on the eastern side of Cold Bay on April 20, 2022. Many residents of King Cove hope to extend the road to connect with the city of Cold Bay.
