Current Interim Chief of Police, Sue Rahr, announced her last day with the Seattle Police Department will be on Wednesday.

In an email to the SPD, Rahr wrote that on Jan. 29, she will "be clearing out of the "Chief's Office." Her email also stated that"Even after I vacate my office, I will be in regular contact with Chief Barnes and the Mayor’s Office for a couple of weeks to wrap up projects and loose ends until mid-February," wrote Rahr. "I will still have email access during that time.

It’s going to be a lot harder than I expected to step away from my “interim” police family...," wrote Rahr. "But I have some ideas about how I might be able to do so project work in the public safety arena that will make your work easier and give me opportunities to stay in touch. I’ll keep you posted on that. In the meantime, keep up your great work, take good care of each other, and stay safe!"She is a proven national expert in this space," Harrell said of Rahr last May.

"Recruiting is a critical need, and that’s something I think I can do relatively quickly and can have a quick impact," Rahr said. "The contract has been resolved, so I want to ride that wave of momentum. I need to listen and learn because I don’t have all the information I need to make decisions yet. I need to talk to the people who live and work in the community.
