Pittsford, N.Y. — Students at Allendale Columbia School are wrapping up a special three-week intergenerational learning program with residents at St. John's Meadows in Brighton. Over the course of several meetings, seventh-graders engaged in meaningful conversations about life and wisdom with seniors. The group shared old photos and memories, and created art projects.
It's all part of an effort to foster authentic connections across generations, while offering seniors a way to remain active and engaged with the broader community.
"Caroline taught me how she persevered through a lot of different challenges she faced," said student Rafaela Agi Naluli. "We bonded over a lot of things, and I'm glad I got the experience we've had. " "The kids without their phones are wonderful," said St. John's resident Carol Fybush. "We talk and we've had great conversations, and it's just nice to be back with younger people.
