Inter Miami's head coach has explained why Lionel Messi was left out of his latest matchday squad following their shock 5-2 defeat to Atlanta United on the weekend.
The Argentine forward was absent as the Herons succumbed to a heavy defeat in the MLS on Saturday, after he also missed Argentina's most recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Speaking after the game, manager Gerardo"Tata" Martino insisted his decision to leave both players out was not influenced by Atlanta United's artificial pitch, explaining he simply wants them ready for the final against Houston Dynamo.
