A University of Miami commit, right-hander Tate DeRias earned the win as Gloucester Catholic defeated Bishop Eustace in the Non-Public B South final.And on this warm and sunny Saturday afternoon, with fans seemingly crammed into every open space, two of the best pitchers in New Jersey this season.
“He struck me out on a curveball, so I knew he was going to throw a lot of that in the last at-bat,” Mustaro said. “He missed over the plate with a fastball and I took advantage of it.Winners of a state record 20 championships, Gloucester Catholic will look to add yet another piece of hardware to the trophy case. The Rams will take on North champion St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday for the title. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Veterans Park in Mercer County.
“Man on second in scoring position .. If I get on, that’s good. If I can walk it off, great,” Mustaro said. “Definitely my biggest hit.”Tate DeRias went the distance Saturday for Gloucester Catholic, striking out eight in the Non-Public South B final against Bishop Eustace.Both pitchers were fabulous, matching each other inning for inning.
“I came out and was throwing a lot of strikes. My fastball, slider, change-up, everything was working,” DeRias said. “The hits they got, they found some holes. You can’t get mad at that. I was pitching to contact all day.
