Imran Moosvi’s bootleg designs for his label, Imran Potato, have been having a celebrity moment. Maybe you’ve seen his oversized denim suits plastered in Louis Vuitton’s LV monogram on Billie Eilish and Bad Bunny. He also used Bad Bunny as a model for a T-shirt featuring a menu of barbershop cuts, where the musician showcased each hairstyle. For Eilish, he created a pair of Yeezy foam runners, only these were Louis Vuitton–printed and lime green.
“Potato-ing” is Moosvi’s secret sauce, a technique that he uses to brand his deliciously warped work. Moosvi tinkers with well-known fashion symbols, putting them into the banal or the ridiculous . Those tongue-in-cheek applications can be wonderfully disorienting. His current collection, which moves away from bootleg and more into what he calls “mature swag,” has plenty of these signatures. “I’m over the Gucci-Louis, Gucci-Louis stuff. I have more to offer,” says Moosvi.
