Insidious: The Red Door, the fifth movie in the long-running horror franchise, debuts on Rotten Tomatoes with a low score despite audience praise.
Insidious: The Red Door has continued the franchise's trend of low Rotten Tomatoes scores, but audiences are diverging from critics. The movie, which opened in theaters on July 7, is the fifth entry in the horror franchise that began with 2010's Insidious, which was directed by James Wan from a screenplay by Leigh Whannell. The new movie was directed by Patrick Wilson, who reprises his original role as Josh Lambert opposite returning cast members Ty Simpkins, Rose Byrne, and Lin Shaye.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT How Insidious: The Red Door Compares To the Rest of the Franchise Although these scores are subject to change as more critics and viewers share their thoughts throughout the movie's opening weekend, this gap between the scores is large enough that it will probably continue to hold the franchise record as scores fluctuate.
The current audience score is also by far the highest in the entire series. The next-highest entry is the original movie, which only holds a 62 percent score with audience members. This means that not only is Insidious: The Red Door showcasing a record-breaking gap in scores, it's actually rising in general esteem over previous entries, especially Insidious: Chapter 2 and Insidious: The Last Key .
Although Insidious: The Red Door will reportedly be the final entry in the flagship franchise for some time, bringing back the original cast seems to have helped boost its scores across the board. This could be very good news, as the spinoff Thread: An Insidious Tale is reportedly in development with Kumail Nanjiani and Mandy Moore attached to star.
