Kate Chatfield, the former chief of staff to Boudin, said she was disturbed by the fact that Andrea Bruss, Mayor Breed's deputy chief of staff, was in the meeting announcing the review. A spokesperson for Breed told SFGATE and Mission Local that it only “provid[ed] some basic transitional support to get [Jenkins] situated in office,” and that it has “no role in any policy making or discussions in the office.”
“These were very political firings,” Chatfield said. “They indicate [the office] is not interested at all in holding police accountable for the crimes they commit, they’re not interested at all in environmental crimes or public corruption cases, and not interested in programs that are very popular like diversion, the Innocence Commission and restorative justice. These movements also reveal a shocking lack of understanding of the work people were doing.
When asked about the plan to replace fired staffers, Jenkins’ office said it would not comment on specific personnel matters.
