Moira Deeming took the stand in the first week of the defamation case brought against her former boss, Victorian Liberal leader John Pesutto.
On a mild Sunday evening in March last year, a day after neo-Nazis marched on the steps of Victoria's parliament, Liberal Party leaders gathered for a crisis meeting.
Ironically, it was Mr Southwick, so sure of the privacy afforded by a Sunday evening on Spring Street, who would later launch the meeting's contents into the public sphere, thanks to a no-longer secret recording."It's so important to get a statement out and disassociate yourself with that immediately, because you're a member of parliament, part of a party," Mr Southwick said during the meeting.

"Obviously I'm not a mind reader, maybe there's some secret Nazi somewhere, but absolutely no indication at all, anywhere," Ms Deeming responded.Eventually, it became clear in the recording there was concern among some parliamentary Liberal Party members about Ms Deeming's anti-trans-rights activism.
