Ben Doak has wasted no time in making an impact at Liverpool and it comes as no surprise to the man who first spotted him playing for his local team
Ben Doak is creating new chapters in the story of his meteoric rise quicker than it's taking to document them. And another could be imminent for the exciting Liverpool winger.
"He hasn't wasted much time making his mark wherever he has played. There aren't many youngsters who can do that, which makes Ben an exception. But I've always regarded him as one of those. "I went back to see him a couple of times and then we asked if he wanted to join our under-10s. He and his family said yes, he came in and Ben did really well."
The association, though, didn't last long. Within a few months, Doak's boyhood club Celtic came calling and Ayr at that time had no option but to allow the youngster to move on. "Our policy back then was that we didn't sign players until they were 10 years of age," says Pattison. "He was with us for three or four months and was doing well, scoring goals and, as you can see from him now, taking the direct route whether it was out wide or through the middle.
