“The bodies are stacked up. People are too afraid to bury their dead. A lot of the nursing and surgical and medical staff have either lost family or are too busy looking after their loved ones to be able to come into the hospital. The capacity is decreasing every time.”“Not only have the supplies been exhausted, but the staff have also been exhausted.” as Dr Medhat Saidam, had escorted his sister to a house where 30 of his relatives were sheltering and stayed overnight.
Around ten miles away, Mahmoud Shalabi, MAP’s Senior Programme Manager in Gaza, is sheltering at home with his family.“This morning I went outside to buy bread for my family. All the bakeries are now closed. Even the ones that are closed, there are plenty of people waiting outside for them, like there’s a tiny slimmer of hope for them to reopen,” he says, also via a voice note from Gaza. There is not enough time or internet to sustain phone conversations.
