'Matlock' star Kathy Bates had a slumber party with co-star Skye P. Marshall before awards season: 'Pearls of wisdom'

I just want to sit back on your couch.” Marshall said that she and Bates “did that” and ordered “delivery food” while wearing “our pajamas.” The actress noted, “We were sitting on the couch, and I was getting as many pearls of wisdom and gems from a legend that I will cherish forever.” “He said, ‘don’t let the old man in.’ No matter what age we are, we all feel that,” Marshall explained. She added, “The word ‘old’ to me is an energetic thing. I can show up to work and be tired, and that’s feeling old. It’s not always connected to your biological age. And so, even when I feel exhausted or worn down – because it does take a lot to live out your dreams! – I have to say, ‘don’t let the old man in.’” Marshall noted that in order to be an actress, “your inner child has to lead this journey. That level of curiosity, that level of creativity and imagination. That’s what allows us to cry on cue. That’s what allows Kathy Bates to do a long walk and talk with pages of dialog.
