Len Goodman previously battled prostate cancer behind closed doors
Strictly Come Dancing judge Len Goodman has died aged 78 after a short battle with bone cancer, his agent announced today.
This is not the first major health battle that the professional ballroom dancer fought outside of the public eye in recent years. Here, we take a closer look into the history of Len Goodman's health scares. He opened up to the Mail on Sunday in 2009 that 'everything's gorgeously good' post surgery. Len spent weeks recovering in hospital after the tumour was removed and urged other middle aged men to look after themselves.
He was spotted at the time with a bandage on the side of his head and previously told Good Morning Britain that a friend had noticed the mole during a round of golf. In his younger years he trained to become a footballer, but his sporting career was short lived after he suffered a foot injury which led him down the route of dancing. At just 19, he took up ballroom dancing and won a series of competitions across the UK before he retired in his late twenties.
In 2016, he also underwent decompression surgery on his shoulder which involved his bone being shaved because it was jagged so painful that it had previously left him in tears.
