Salamina Mosese is thrilled to add 'published author' to her titles of Sorele Media co-owner, film producer and actress. It's 10 000, the number of hours that author Malcom Gladwell says a person needs to commit to perfecting a skill.
For media personality and actress Salamina Mosese, it was the skill of writing a children’s story that she finessed in her 10 000 pandemic hours. “That desire was inspired by having a child and fully exploring the world of books that were out there for children to read. It has been a dream that I have been putting off for a long time. And then life just kept happening, so I kept putting it off.”
“When I started the book, I was also homeschooling my firstborn daughter, and I had a three-month-old baby. I would only get to writing at about midnight, when the whole house was quiet and I had completed all the chores around the house. It's a pretty cool thing having creative parents, each highly regarded in the entertainment industry for their individual body of work. But starring in a book Mom says was inspired by you? Salamina says Tumi, her 11-year-old, who is one of the main characters in the book, “absolutely loves the book”.The mom of two – her youngest, two-year-old Thato, is her “lockdown baby who is still exploring life and people outside our house” – says she learns so much from just observing kids.
