Concourse B is 16 years in the making.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Flying out of the Jacksonville International Airport will change in a few years., because officials say they are seeing record-breaking growth of travelers.
"Once complete, the major construction projects will greatly transform the travel experience at JAX and meet future demand of forecasted passenger traffic. They believe this approximately $340 million project will change the traveling experience for the next 20 years. Soon, crews will start building"Concourse B," a project JIA officials said was in the making for 16 years; it includes: six new gates, a third parking garage that is walking distance of the terminal and more local restaurants and businesses.
JAA said the project will be constructed over"three major phases" and will make the airport more spacious. Here's what will take place during each phase of construction for the project, according to a news release:Phase Two: The taxiway whiskey and ramp construction and the planning, design, construction and relocation of airfield equipment. The last phase is the construction of the 190,000-square-foot Concourse B which features six additional gates to grow airline operations, as well as new restaurants and amenities for passengers.
