Alexander Fury has collected over 300 vintage pieces of John Galliano and we are lucky enough to have a look inside this magnificent collector's closet.

obsessed with John Galliano. Stepping inside Fury’s home in London, England, he has an entire archive room dedicated to the designer’s exquisite clothes. Over the years, Fury has collected roughly 300 Galliano pieces, including garments from the designer’s days at the helm of labels such as Givenchy and Christian Dior—all of which Fury handles with white cotton curator’s gloves, of course. “It seems a bit deranged, but it’s to protect everything from acids from my hands,” he says.

Fury first started collecting Galliano pieces when he was a teenager. “I was just a kid who was completely besotted with the work that he was creating,” Fury remembers. He recalls the first time he ever saw a Galliano dress in a magazine. “It was a picture of Carla Bruni, and she was wearing a long, black and white dress on a rooftop, and it was snowing,” says Fury. “I wanted to know more about it.

Since then, his collection has grown intensively of course. “The pieces I collect are womenswear, and extreme womenswear—they’re not polite coats with a little bit of a bust dart,” he says, adding that he has an affinity for “ballgowns, bias-cut evening dresses, and skirt suits in a shocking pink.” Some treasures in Fury’s collections? There’s a sequined french from Galliano’s fall 2000 “Fly Girls” collection for Christian Dior.

There’s also newsprint Dior jackets that fasten with safety pins , as well as an embroidered floral blazer from Galliano’s fall 1995 Haute Couture collection for Givenchy. The piece he would save in a house fire is the fall 1995 Galliano dress he originally saw Bruni wearing in a magazine, which he now proudly owns. Fury has such an impressive array that Galliano himself has even taken notice of his collection, sending Fury a personal note that he now treasures.

As Fury’s Galliano collection only continues to grow—“the collection had completely outgrown my home,” he says—Fury adds that he has no specific plan to sell or showcase his unique Galliano archive. For him, the special feel of collecting is all in the thrill of the hunt. “To me, it’s completely priceless, and I don’t think I could ever sell it,” says Fury of the collection. “The ultimate goal is to own everything from every show.
