An inquiry is set to be established to examine Victoria's decision to demolish public housing towers and the impact it will have on thousands of residents.

Parliamentary Inquiry set to be launched into Victorian Government's plan to demolish 44 public housing towers in Melbourne

Victoria’s plan to demolish thousands of public housing units was unveiled by the Prime Minister and former Premier Daniel Andrews in September. But Victorian Greens Leader Samantha Ratnam said the plan is counter-productive and will lead a motion in State Parliament to set up a parliamentary inquiry into the matter.

“They’re refused to come clean on the feasibility on it, They’re refused to come clean on what land deals they’re doing with it,” Mr Riordan said. Sky News has confirmed crossbench MPs Georgie Purcell and Legalise Cannabis Party MPs David Ettershank and Rachel Payne are among several minor party members likely to support the motion. In July 2020, nine of the 44 public housing towers set to be demolished were locked down by the government, leaving residents inside for up to two weeks after an outbreak of coronavirus in the public housing community.
