At the scene of a fiery head-on crash that killed a Queensland mother and her four young children, investigators found a purse with a handwritten note inside.
Charmaine McLeod, who had been diagnosed mental health issues, wrote that she had been raped, and two of her four children had been molested, a court was told by counsel assisting Kylie Hillard.
The purse was found some metres from the wreckage after motorists rushed to help the family, with Aaleyn, 6, thrown from her mother’s car, as flames engulfed the truck and the Nissan X-Trail.Her mother and three younger siblings, Matilda, 5, Wyatt, 4, and Zaidok, 2, died at the scene. Hillard told the court McLeod had a history of schizophrenia, paranoia and hallucinations, such as visions of animals talking to her.“She experienced paranoia, believing others were after her, and she experienced stress and distress from a variety of sources,” she said in her opening statement.“But her mental health was misunderstood and not recognised by many.
