Emergency volunteers were scrambled
Mountain rescue teams scrambled to help the woman after being alerted by Cumbria Police on Saturday afternoon. The walker has sustained an ankle injury when she fell on the Screes path and was spotted by a passing couple who alerted the emergency services.
Volunteers from Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team attended the incident and over a period of almost three hours were able to bring her to safety. Crews were able to provide immediate medical care before taking her across the lake and then to an ambulance.A spokesperson said: "The team was called today about a walker on the Screes path who had fallen and injured her ankle. It was called in to Cumbria Police by another couple who were passing.
"The advance foot party arrived on scene, assessed, provided pain relief and applied a splint to make her more comfortable. A short transfer was made to the boat, and then the walker was ferried to the other side of the lake in a well rehearsed manoeuvre. "More team members were waiting there for another short journey to the land ambulance, and her onward transfer to hospital. We wish the walker a swift recovery and would like to thank the passing couple for their help."
