The festival will occupy 300,000 square feet at IngenuityLabs from September 26-28, featuring both traditional crafts and cutting-edge technology.
“Smoke & Mirrors” invites the audience into a larger-than-life board game and challenges teams to navigate a maze with lasers.CLEVELAND, Ohio -- IngenuityFest is hard to explain. It brings together many of Greater Cleveland’s best and brightest creators and collaborators to use their talents and skills to inspire the public.
And it invites the public to experience — and even participate in — creative works. It’s the kind of event you have to experience to believe. For the past year, IngenuityLab artists, innovators and makers have been building hands-on experiences, developing performances and creating immersive exhibits that blend art, technology and community engagement. If that sounds confusing, show up at IngenuityFest 2025: Forging the Future, Sept. 26-28 — and prepare to be wowed. The event spans four floors in the former Osborn Manufacturing Company, a 100-year old building at 5401 Hamilton Ave. in Cleveland’s St. Clair-Superior neighborhood, near the East 55th exit off the Shoreway.“This year’s festival invites guests to get hands-on with time-tested tools of yesteryear — from blacksmithing to glassblowing to machining — as well as experience the technologies of tomorrow,” said Executive Director Emily Appelbaum. Different themes, activities and creative spaces are staged every year. This year’s footprint is 300,000 square feet.Festival attendees can explore several themed areas, including returning attractions like IndusTREE Alley, which focuses on sustainability, and Makers Mecca, featuring 50 local artisans and entrepreneurs. New additions include the Ingenuity STEAMshop, with large-scale light and sound sculptures by animation artist Xacto Mundo and multimedia artist Ed Morra. Soundscape artist Bbob Drake will present “Organism,” a huge pipe organ installation with original compositions. International installation artist Gazelle Dasti will debut “NewClear Neural,” an interactive sculpture allowing visitors to step inside an 18-foot stainless steel human bust that powers an LED display through a people-operated merry-go-round. Colorado-based Story Portal will offer interactive storytelling experiences with acoustic performances.Additional installations include Noah Hubbard’s “Xenocyclotron” liquid light experience and Tom Stoll’s “Digital Grotto,” where visitors can create soundscapes using dripping water.“I want people to come away confident in the power of collaboration,” said Applebaum. “I want them feeling positive about Cleveland. I want young people to try something different. I want them to not forget the inner child that likes to be silly and experiment.” She also hopes people will put down their screens for a while and meet others they wouldn’t normally encounter. Refreshment stations, a dozen food trucks and beverages from Goldhorn Brewery and Watershed Distillery will be available.“In challenging times, we turn to art and innovation to lift us up and push us forward. We’re proud to conclude our 20th anniversary season with this spirit of growth and resilience,” she said.Ingenuity Fest runs from 6 p.m. to 1 am., Friday, Sept. 26; 1 to 10 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27; and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28. General admission tickets are $15. Street parking is available, with a paid $5 lot at a 5000 Lakeside Ave. Signs will direct visitors to the repurposed industrial space.
