The National Institute for Communicable Diseases has declared a cholera outbreak in Gauteng after six cases and one death were reported in the province. Two cases are especially worrying because their history shows they were infected locally.

Cholera outbreak declared in Gauteng as sixth case identified by Estelle Ellis, Daily Maverick March 1, 2023 The National Institute for Communicable Diseases confirmed on Wednesday that there are now six confirmed cholera cases in South Africa, and one person has died of the disease. According to the Institute, the first three cases can be traced to the current outbreak in Malawi.
