The infant, whose name and city of residence is not being released, is the youngest person in Riverside County to die from the virus. “Our thoughts and sympathies go out to the parents, family, and others who are impacted by this tragedy,” county Health Officer Dr. Geoffrey Leung said in the release. “This loss reminds us that this virus does not discriminate between the young and old.”
Leung said the child’s death “shows the importance of using the tools available to protect those around us, particularly the most innocent, from the harm the virus can cause.”have been reported in Riverside County, county officials said. Most deaths were among those older than 30. A few teens and young adults – some with underlying health conditions — also have died from the virus.
“It is devastating to learn about the passing of this infant life,” Jeff Hewitt, chair of the Riverside County Board of Supervisors, said in the release. “We have a long road ahead of us as we navigate this pandemic and it’s the loss of life that reminds us about the challenges we face.
