INDIANAPOLIS — In recognition of Transit Equity Day, IndyGo will offer free rides on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025.to local nonprofit groups and organizations.Transit Equity Day, honoring civil rights leader Rosa Parks, was first celebrated in 2021. The foundation said the event is an effort to ensure that public transportation is accessible, equitable and inclusive.

“We are thrilled to recognize charitable organizations throughout the Indianapolis area who join with us to ensure that our neighbors have access to an essential, often forgotten, basic need, transportation. Through the generosity of our donors this grant cycle, we will share the gift of transit with a record 119 Marion County nonprofit partners,” said IndyGo Foundation executive director Emily Meaux.

It's the fourth year for the annual bus fare grants, and this year's awards will be the largest ever. The foundation reports"serving 1,097,273 individuals with transportation barriers to employment, food, healthcare and other essential services" last year. Supporters of the foundation grants are Eskenazi Health, Glick Philanthropies, Herbert Simon Family Foundation, IU Health, IU Health Foundation, Midwest Presort Service, Nicholas H. Noyes Jr. Memorial Foundation, Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, Taylor Advising, The Brave Heart Foundation, The National Bank of Indianapolis and Walmart Corporation.
