PETALING JAYA: The Minions continue to rule and Malaysians continue to be in awe of them.
Indonesians Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Marcus Fernaldi Gideon extended their unbeaten record over Malaysian opponents to an astonishing 22 matches in five years by outplaying Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik 21-17, 21-19 in the All-England quarter-finals.
Aaron-Wooi Yik, who suffered their fourth defeat to the Indonesians this year, are not the only Malaysian pair who have struggled against them. After beating the Indonesian pair when they were a rookie combination at the Swiss Open in March 2015, the Rio Olympics silver medallists went on to lose on all next seven occasions.
Boon Heong, however, believes that Kevin-Marcus are not invincible and has urged Aaron-Wooi Yik to keep their chins up despite the latest defeat. “But I’m quite certain that the Minions are not going to win forever. It’s all about finding the right formula to beat them, as long as they keep training hard and don’t give up, the day will come.”
